Gale Woods Farm

A former steam engine maintenance facility, the Jackson Street Roundhouse is one of the surviving buildings from a bygone area of The Great Northern Railway. Visitors can view exhibits about the local rail industry and watch a still-operational roundhouse turntable in action. But perhaps the coolest part of a visit to the roundhouse is looking inside restored passenger train cars. If your little ones are all about trains after a visit, take them to Choo Choo Bob’s Train Store at 2050 Marshall Ave. in Saint Paul for even more train fun.

Just jump! The SkyZone Sports indoor trampoline park is a great way to burn off energy while creating a lot of laughs. There is a special area for jumpers age 5 or younger, and private court rentals are available for larger groups. Concessions stand and skate rental hours are 4 to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 9:30 p.m. Sundays and most school holidays. Please note that although concessions and rentals do not open until 4 p.m. on weekdays, the skating rink does open at noon to accommodate those with their own skates.
The rink is typically open from mid-December through mid-February, depending upon the weather.

Sometimes you don’t need to go far away from home to experience summer during the winter months. Billed as America’s biggest indoor water park, the Water Park of America is located at the Radisson Hotel directly across the street from Mall of America. The entire family can don swimsuits for a day and splash away in 300,000 gallons of water that fill the entire park. There are 12 slides, including the Eagles Nest, which travels five floors down to the main park. In addition to the multitude of slides, there are floating pools, wave pools, family raft rides, body slides and hot springs hot tubs.

Saturday Puppet Shows for Kids run from October through March
All Shows at 10 am & noon in HOBT’s Avalon Theater lobby
Come for the show and stay for the “Make-n-Take” workshop based on that day’s puppet show theme. Workshops are a family activity offered in our classroom at 11:00 a.m. each Saturday morning. Admission is $5/person. $2 suggested donation for youth who live or go to school in the Central, Corcoran, Phillips or Powderhorn neighborhoods, and their families. If you live elsewhere, a $4 donation is requested.
Make-n-Take workshops: 11 am – Admission is $5 for children and $3 for accompanying adults.
Season runs October – March
No reservations are necessary but seating for the shows and workshops is limited.
After the Show Saturday Puppet Workshops

Workshops
Home Depot
On the first Saturday of each month, Home Depot’s FREE Kids Workshops offer fun and useful projects like building toolboxes, fire trucks and mail organizers, birdhouses, Mother’s Day gifts, or any number of other cool projects.

The workshops are great for 5- to 12-year-olds, and they teach children do-it-yourself skills and tool safety and at the same time they help to instill a sense of accomplishment. If your little builder is under 5, that’s fine, too, but you’ll need to provide a little more supervision.

They start at 9:00 am,  and last until about noon. Please  register ahead of time online to make sure we have enough kits and aprons for the participants. The Home Depot’s Kids Workshops are FREE and are held on the first Saturday of every month at every Home Depot store.
